We decided to start Covered Bridge Cellars after discovering the fun and excitement of making small batches of wine in our basement. With both of us already in well established careers on the East Coast—not to mention short a couple million for a winery and vineyard site—turning our hobby into a business seemed far fetched. That is, until we read an article about San Francisco based Crushpad, a company that is changing the way new wine brands are launched. If you've never heard of them, you should definitely visit their website. As aspiring entrepreneurs and wine lovers, we jumped at the opportunity to partner with the people behind this innovative company. Thus, the idea for Covered Bridge Cellars was born.
Our Name
As New Englanders, we have always appreciated the fine craftsmanship and attention to detail that are the hallmarks of covered bridges. If you walk along a span that has stood the test of time it’s easy to recognize the mark of quality inherent in its design and construction. The more we thought about it, choosing this symbol as the name of our new wine company seemed fitting. It was distinct, personally meaningful, and emblematic of our commitment to making the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay possible.
Our Vision
The long-term goal is to develop a portfolio of four to five highly differentiated artisan brands that reflect the diverse winegrowing regions of California and Oregon. We hope to unveil the first brand of our lineup as soon as we “clear” the name with our legal folks. This new label will showcase the exceptional Pinot Noir fruit from the Hein Family Vineyard in Anderson Valley and the world class Chardonnay from the highly acclaimed Alder Springs Vineyard in northern Mendocino County. We feel very fortunate to have secured our inaugural vintage fruit from these two unbelievable sources and expect the end product to be fantastic. Production will be very limited and sold primarily to our mailing list members on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can view our winemaking plans for these wines by clicking click here.
Congrats - sounds wonderful, and since I grew up in and graduated from Waltham High (72,) and then Lasalle in Newton, your venture sounds very exciting!I have been in Florida for more than 30 years, but whenever we can, we go to the bay area and always to Napa. Just love it there. Love wine from all over really. Best of luck with your project. And when you are really famous millionaires -I hope tot get an autographed bottle of your best wine!
